Tesla's OEM skid plates are made out of fiberboard - which is basically a cardboard composite material. It's easily susceptible to water damage, swelling and warping if in direct contact with the elements, and rips or tears due to hitting low curbs or driving over rough areas. There's one in the front and one in the back covering the drive units.
These aluminum skid plates have sound dampening material on the inside to decrease road noise, while fully protecting your drive train. It's a win-win.

My Tesla Model 3 Skid Plate order arrived approximately two days after I placed my order. Unfortunately, the front skid plate was somewhat damaged. One of the rear end “points” was bent due to mishandling on the part of the delivery company. Fortunately, when I installed this plate I was able to straighten the metal and secure the plate to the undercarriage of the car. The overall installation process (front and back) took approximately two hours and, except for having to take a few extra minutes to stranger the aluminum end of the front skid, it was quite easy. Watching the installation video was very helpful and definitely recommended. These skid plates are a definite “step above” the Tesla OEM composite “plates”. I expect them to be much more durable and quieter.
Installation was a little difficult because they both arrived bent in ways that weren't obvious until held under the car. Foam on back was misaligned on rear piece, and new bolts with front piece didn't fit snug against the panel (assume some other not-obvious shape issue). Also found another place to get what looks exactly the same for ~$200 cheaper but whatevs I guess. Otherwise, significantly better protection than what came with the car, my front piece was half gone so in a much better spot. Dont notice any acoustic difference but feel better that the motors are more protected now than they have been since delivery.
Best purchase I ever made. Cannot put a price on protecting that battery and that sexy car.

Recently installed the finish quality looks great just like factory but only better assuring minimal damage if you ever run over something that you’re not suppose to.
Items arrived quickly, removed Tesla OEM Fiberboard skid plates and installed these high quality aluminum ones, much better protection and won't deteriorate like OEM fiberboard ones
