Imagine transforming your Tesla Model Y Juniper from ordinary to extraordinary—protecting it while adding a unique splash of personality. That’s exactly what we’ve set out to achieve with the Miracle Coat Starlight Green color-infused Paint Protection Film (PPF).
Why Color PPF?
Colored PPF isn’t just about looks; it’s about combining customization with superior protection. Unlike traditional vinyl, PPF offers self-healing properties, meaning minor scratches and swirl marks disappear when exposed to heat. Plus, it’s thicker, providing an extra robust layer against road debris and environmental hazards. Vinyl wraps have been around much longer and offer an expansive amount of colors, but colored PPF is gaining more and more impressive options every year.
The Journey to DIY-Friendly
At TESBROS, we believe that exceptional car protection and personalization should be accessible to everyone—not just professionals. But creating DIY-friendly PPF kits, especially in colors like Starlight Green, involves meticulous design and testing.
In our four-part video series, we bring you a behind-the-scenes look, showing you exactly how we develop a DIY-friendly kit for the Model Y Juniper. From selecting the perfect materials sourced from innovative partners like Miracle Coat, to adjusting design templates for precision and ease-of-use, every step of our R&D process is focused on empowering you to succeed.
Spotlight: Miracle Coat Starlight Green
Miracle Coat, based in South Korea, stands out with its incredible palette of deep, metallic-infused colors. Starlight Green (MC193) instantly caught our attention due to its unique color-shifting properties—it transforms beautifully under different lighting conditions from green to purple to blue hues in a sparkling gloss sheen.
Applying Starlight Green to our Model Y Juniper is an exciting challenge. The vivid transformation from the original Quicksilver to this captivating green requires meticulous precision, especially around edges and curves, to ensure a seamless finish.
Highlights from Our Installation Process
In part one of our series, we introduced Miracle Coat and demonstrated applying the film to the hood—a relatively flat and beginner-friendly surface. In part two, we tackled the fenders, showcasing a more dynamic installation process with challenging curves and edges.
One key technique highlighted in our second video involves strategically stretching the film to eliminate wrinkles or “fingers.” This method ensures a smooth, professional finish without needing to remove complex parts like bumpers or headlights—a significant advantage for DIY enthusiasts.
On all of these panels, we experimented with our prototype kit design – that we create in house – to minimize the need for removing vehicle parts, enhancing the DIY-friendly aspect of the installation. Though initially uncertain about this approach, we successfully demonstrated effective coverage without extensive disassembly, making the process more accessible.
In part three, we took on the bumper—a notoriously challenging component due to its curves. However, the redesigned 2026 Model Y bumper made the process smoother, allowing us to utilize a hybrid template-bulk approach. Our templates provided additional material where needed, facilitating easier alignment and stretching.
The bumper installation highlighted the critical importance of balancing slip and tack solutions, meticulous hydration, and carefully managing tension and coverage. This approach allows even beginners to achieve impressive results without extensive disassembly or complicated adjustments.
Mastering the Edges and Corners
The final video in our series addresses one of the most critical aspects of a professional-looking PPF installation: managing edges and corners. Properly sealing edges ensures long-lasting protection and a clean finish. Key techniques include:
- Edge Sealing: Using heat (via a heat gun or torch) to firmly seal edges, preventing lifting or peeling.
- Corner Management: Skillfully using heat and precise trimming to manage corners, eliminating bunching and ensuring smooth contours.
- Relieving Tension: Strategically cutting or “J-cutting” to relieve film tension, ensuring durability and a flawless appearance.
Mastering these final touches significantly elevates the overall look and longevity of the installation, rivaling professional work.
What Makes This Kit DIY-Friendly?
- Precision-Cut Templates: Our custom-designed templates simplify alignment and minimize the guesswork.
- Pro-Level Tools Included: Every kit comes with industry-grade application tools ensuring you have everything needed for a professional-quality installation.
- Comprehensive Guidance: Our video courses not only demonstrates the application process step-by-step but also covers troubleshooting tips, ensuring you feel confident at every stage.
Realistic Expectations
While we’ve streamlined the process, installing PPF does require patience and attention to detail. Every kit comes with pre-cut film so you don’t have to worry about cutting on your car. It may not be as simple as slapping on a sticker, but we’ve taken every measure to make it achievable for enthusiastic DIYers. Our honest approach means we highlight common challenges, like managing alignment, avoiding bubbles, and properly sealing edges.
We have clear gloss and matte DIY PPF kits available for the Model Y Juniper – as well as for other Tesla models – and we’re excited to take it a step further with colored PPF options. Stay tuned and sign up for the latest updates here.
