Most cars are painted and have a clear coat layer that protects the paint. The Cybertruck does not have paint, nor a clear coat, and is bare metal – specifically, stainless steel. Since it’s bare metal, there are some different steps you’ll have to take to clean your filthy Cybertruck.
1. Get In The Shade
Stainless steel on the Cybertruck can heat up real fast in the summer, and you don’t want any products to dry on the panels. So, make sure you move the vehicle out of the sun and under shade, or wash at dawn or dusk. This will make the cleaning process much easier and won’t leave any ugly residue on the surface of the vehicle.
2. Spray It Down With Water
If you spray it down with water first, you’ll be able to get rid of the caked-up dust or mud on the Cybertruck. Since it’s bare metal and you’re not dealing with clear coated paint, it’s not as sensitive, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t scratch. We recommend using a pressure washer (no higher than 1900 PSI) to remove all mud and top layer of dirt off the Cybertruck.
3. Use A Clean Car Wash Shampoo
Grab two buckets and fill one bucket with water and the other with your car wash shampoo. We recommend using our biodegradable car wash shampoo that’s easy to rinse off. We also recommend using grit guards to keep the dirt and contaminants at the bottom of the bucket. Use a chenille or microfiber wash mitt, dunk it in the wash bucket, and clean the stainless steel in a horizontal motion from top to bottom. Clean your mitt after every panel to prevent scratching.
If you have a pressure washer, you can use a foam cannon to foam it first, and then wash it with the two bucket method.
4. Final Rinse With Clean Water
Well and public water usually have high mineral content that could cause water spots on the stainless steel. The mineral content is measured by particles per million (ppm) and water safe for drinking is between 50-150 ppm. You can purchase a spotless water filter that will bring the ppm down to less than 50 ppm. If you rinse it with low-mineral content water, it will not leave water spots. If you don’t have access to clean water, you can still rinse it with high-mineral water, but make sure to dry it well and don’t leave water on the surface of the vehicle.
5. Bar Keeper Is Your Friend
If you want the extra shine, we recommend using Bar Keeper’s Friend. BKF is non-corrosive and non-abrasive, so it won’t damage the surface of the Cybertruck. Use the liquid version since the powder can be messier. Using a Scotch Brite pad, go horizontally and work on one panel at a time. Once you’ve cleaned it with Bar Keeper’s Friend, rinse it and dry it right away using a large, absorbent drying towel. Repeat the steps for the rest of the panels. This is not required to do each time, but only if you really want the extra shine.
6. Fingerprints everywhere?
The Cybertruck is notably a fingerprint magnet. The easiest way to wipe these away is to use 70% isopropyl alcohol mixed with water. I usually do 80% water: 20% alcohol.
