When we wrap a Tesla in vinyl or PPF, removing trims and fender cameras is typically essential for full coverage. However, many DIYers and professional wrap shops face an issue afterward: the cameras sometimes won’t display properly, despite being correctly reconnected. In this guide, we’ll show you a quick and easy method to reset your cameras and get them working again.

Why Would You Need to Reset the Cameras?

If the camera feed isn’t live, deactivated or showing errors on the screen, this quick reset resolves the issue and gets your cameras working again. Here are some common reasons you might need to reset your cameras.

Step-by-Step Guide to Resetting Cameras:

Step 1: Enter Service Mode

  1. Navigate to the “Software” menu on your Tesla touchscreen.
  2. Press and hold the name of your Tesla above the VIN – whether it’s a Model Y, 3, Cybertruck, etc.
  3. Enter the access code: SERVICE.
  4. Confirm entry to access the red Service Mode screen.

Pro tip: Enter Service Mode BEFORE removing cameras on your Tesla to avoid unnecessary sensor errors.

Step 2: Check Camera Status

  1. In Service Mode, select Driver Assist.
  2. Click on Cameras to view camera statuses.
  3. Cameras with issues will show up in red, indicating they need resetting.

Step 3: Reset Driver Assistance System (DAS)

  1. In the Cameras menu, tap Reset DAS.
  2. Press Run to begin.
  3. Confirm that the backup camera, autopilot, and dashcam will temporarily deactivate (this is safe while in park mode).

Step 4: Perform Gateway Unlock

  1. Ensure your vehicle is in park.
  2. Place your Tesla key card on the charging pad.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Hold the right indicator stalk for approximately 7-10 seconds.
  5. A “Gateway State is Unlocked” message will appear, giving you 90 minutes for the reset (though you’ll only need a moment).

Step 5: Finalize Reset

  1. Press Reset DAS again, and you’ll see a confirmation that DAS has successfully hard reset.
  2. Close the reset window and wait a moment—your cameras will reactivate immediately.

Step 6: Exit Service Mode

  1. Click and hold the red Exit Mode button.
  2. Confirm that all cameras are now live and functioning correctly.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If cameras don’t reactivate, double-check connections and ensure the clip is fully secure.
  • Wait a few minutes and retry the reset if necessary.
